I was pretty happy to get this, then realized it won't fit in my miter gauge slot. I have an inexpensive Black & Decker saw with a T slot and it's just too wide. The construction and quality are nice though and I think this would be a great addition to a shop.
First to check the blade to slot parallelism, then to check the slot to the fence parallelism (if a+b=c then c+b=a). I've used the magnetic type for awhile and awkward to setup and use, but with the superbar the dial indicator becomes more accurate and easier to setup. You can use it in either miter slot. A very nice tool to have when your making anykind of quality pieces. Once your indicated to within.003" you reduce or eliminate the burn marks, the saw will run better and you'll get much more satisfaction out accuracy of your work.
There ARE NO upgrades to this thing. The TS Aligner is MADE IN THE USA by a real machinist. Don't waste your money. Visit his site for a truckload of valuable info Ed provides for free. It does everything this gadget can, and then some.
I can't say enough good things about his products, service or business philosophy. The TS Aligner is VERY accurate. If you decide you want the advanced features of the higher-priced TS aligners, you can upgrade without buying an entire new unit. Other reviewers have already noted the inaccuracy and other flaws of this plastic gizmo. it's no contest.Don't just trust my opinion. The instructional videos ALONE are worth the price. We got fast personal service and sound advice from the Ed Bennet, the owner of the company.
He gives you choices for different indicators, angle-blocks and models so you can choose the best tool for your needs and budget. You can find more info at [.]. or search "Tablesaw alignment, Ed Bennet".
Read the reviews then go Check it out for yourself. You can get the "real-deal" for only three-dollars more.TS aligner Jr "lite" is only three-bucks more, is precision-ground from stable aluminum, (not plastic) and is easier to use.
He is very knowledgeable and helpful. TS Aligners have free videos that shows you how to use these tools.
The videos are dry, but have good photography, close ups and clear explanations. Considering the quality, the storehouse of information, the free videos and personal service from this American manufacturer, plastic imported stuff just can't compete.
"table saw alignment" and "Ed Bennet"
I bought this "thing" about three years ago and was constantly resetting my table saw using this expensive piece of junk. I now have a real alignment tool made in usa that's all metal and with an accurate gauge. Come to find out the master plate has a.004 "hump" in it and the gauge never reads the same. I was going crazy trying to align the saw.Although I got a replacement, the same problems existed. Haven't had any more alignment problems. Don't waste your money on this.
THIS UNIT WORKS HAND IN HAND WITH THE MASTERTPLATE (410-01) FOR CHECKING PARALLELISM OF MITER SLOT TO ARBOR AND MITER SLOT TO FENCE. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD RECCOMEND FOR A MACHINIST.THE SUPPLIED PLASTIC HOLDER/MITER SLIDER FEELS KIND OF CHEAPY BUT DOES ITS JOB SO LONG AS YOU SET IT PER THE INSTRUCTIONS AND MAKE SURE YOUR MITER SLOTS ARE CLEAN AND FREE OFF ANY BUILDUP OF WAX OR WOOD DUST, OR SLIDING WILL BE DIFFICULT AND YOUR READINGS WILL PROBABLY BE OFF.YOU CAN ALSO USE THIS FOR CHECKING RUNOUT ON A DRILL PRESS OR HAND DRILL IF YOU WANTED TO YOU MAY WANT TO THINK ABOUT GETTING A DIAL INDICATOR THATS A LITTLE MORE PRECISE THOUGH. YOU CAN ALSO USE THIS FOR CHECKING THE RUNOUT ON YOUR ARBOR. KEEP IN MIND THE SUPPLIED DIAL INDICATOR IS IN THOUSANDTHS OF AN INCH.001"-1.0" WHICH SHOULD BE MORE THAN ENOUGH ACCURACY FOR WOODWORK. I ONLY GAVE THIS 4 STARS JUST BECAUSE IT FELT A LITTLE CHEAPY, ALL IN ALL IT WORKED VERY WELL FOR ME. GOOD LUCK.
